PEOPLE'S HOLLYWOOD

The PEOPLE'S HOLLYWOOD is not meant to be located

in a building with a big staff

The PEOPLE'S HOLLYWOOD is meant to be a neighborhood-based coalition of many -- small businesses, community organizations, libraries, craftspeople, artists, musicans, professional filmmakers -- all playing a part in helping to support the development of low/no budget filmmakers.  This while also stimulating the development of local micro businesses in our targeted district from Brownsville to Bushwick, Brooklyn.

It will unfold in increments over a course of several years.  It will be funded by a combination of sliding scale fees, sales, rentals, grants, cash and in-kind donations, and industry sponsors.

PEOPLE'S HOLLYWOOD WILL BE ANCHORED BY:

  • Classes taught at different community locations                            (how to write a short script; run  a small set; be a great  production assistant / PA)

  • Speakers / Mentor's Bureau                                                          (made up of union and indie filmmakers and craftspeople volunteering their time)

  • Training and Promoting of a PA Brigade

  • Creation of PH Membership Group                                      ( benefits to include discounts, individual Mentor sessions, access to key prop and small equipment rental; district-wide promotion of their projects and shoot needs)

IMAGINE LISTINGS IN A

'PEOPLE'S HOLLYWOOD DIRECTORY' :

  • The local hardware store that has a section of special items for small budget filmmakers (things normally you go to Manhattan for)

  • The beauty and hair supply store with a Special Effects Make-up section (more types of phony blood and prosthetic wounds than Rickys!)

  • The vintage clothing shop and the furniture store renting items for shoots

  • Locations allowing little shoots in their facilities for a small charge

  • Local artists willing to rent their artwork for sets; budding musicians willing to sell one-time use of songs

Our vision is an essential need that the NYC film industry and

city government does not know yet it needs!
